The Khmelnytskyi Energy Cluster team is launching the project “Safe Nuclear Waste Management: An Educational Program for Khmelnytskyi Region” in collaboration with the Norwegian youth organization Natur og Ungdom (Nature and Youth).

The project aims to raise awareness and develop knowledge about safe nuclear waste management among residents of the Khmelnytskyi region, particularly in areas near the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (KhNPP).

The goal is to educate citizens, educational institutions, and local authorities on proper approaches to managing nuclear energy waste, understanding potential risks, and ways to minimize these risks for public safety and environmental protection.

Within the Project we plan:

  • to develop educational materials in which we will explain the key aspects of nuclear waste management with a focus on local specifics and requirements;

  • to organize seminars and training sessions for schoolchildren, students, teachers, local authorities, and the public to spread knowledge about nuclear safety and environmental standards. We will also hold sessions to exchange experiences in cooperation with our Norwegian partners;

  • to hold information campaign about nuclear waste and environmental responsibility;

  • to purchase and transfer radiation monitoring equipment to five educational institutions in communities within a 30 km radius of the Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant to inform young people and residents in general about the current state of radiation levels in the region;

  • to conduct a sociological survey regarding public attitudes toward KhNPP and total awareness of nuclear waste issues.

The project is aimed at creating a long-term impact by spreading knowledge, fostering environmental awareness, and promoting a responsible approach to nuclear safety. This project can significantly improve the understanding of critical environmental issues in the region and contribute to enhancing safety around KhNPP.
